Sampdoria-Fiorentina game rescheduled after bridge tragedy moved to later kick-off time

Napoli’s Carlo Ancelotti believes their 3-0 loss to Sampdoria was down to going into the match with a negative mental attitude that will need to be corrected.

Sampdoria’s rescheduled Serie A fixture against Fiorentina on Wednesday Sept. 19 has been put back to a 7.00 p.m. local time kick-off after complaints from fans about its original 5.00 p.m. kick-off time.

The fixture had been due to take place on the opening day of the season but was postponed following the collapse of a bridge in Genoa, the city in which Sampdoria are based, which killed 43 people.

It had been given the early kick-off time on Wednesday due to UEFA limitations on Champions League nights.

Games in the top divisions of European leagues are not usually allowed to be played at the same time as Champions League matches, but UEFA has accepted a Lega Serie A for an exception.

Because both Italian clubs in action in the Champions League on Wednesday — Juventus at Valencia and Roma at Real Madrid — play at 9.00 p.m., Sampdoria’s fixture has been moved to a more convenient time for fans.

“We thank UEFA for having understood the exceptional nature of this case and issued an exception,” the Lega Serie A said a statement to ANSA.
