Afghanistan captain Asghar Afghan decided to bat first against Bangladesh in the final group game of the 2018 Asia Cup in Abu Dhabi. The match is inconsequential, with both teams having qualified for the Super Four stage, but the challenge for both would be to save energy for their big games on Friday without compromising on their competitiveness.
Bangladesh handed ODI debuts to left-arm fast bowler Abu Hider and batsman Nazmul Hossain Shanto. They are the 126th an 127th ODI players for the country, although they have turned out for Bangladesh in other formats (Hider in T20s, and Shanto in Tests).
Shanto replaced Tamim Iqbal, who was ruled out of the tournament with a fractured wrist, suffered in their previous game against Sri Lanka. Hider replaced Mustafizur Rahman, while Mushfiqur Rahim was rested and was replaced by Mominul Haque, who will play his first ODI in three years.
Afghanistan made one change, bringing in Samiullah Shenwari for Najibullah Zadran.
