LONDON — England could be without one of its key players for the Women’s World Cup next year after playmaker Jordan Nobbs ruptured the anterior cruciate ligament in her left knee.
Nobbs, England’s player of the year in 2016, was injured while playing for Arsenal against Everton in the Women’s Super League on Sunday.
“Everyone at the club wishes Jordan a speedy recovery and will give their full support in her journey back to full fitness,” an Arsenal statement read.
The 2019 World Cup starts in less than seven months, making it unlikely that Nobbs would be able to recover in time to feature for Phil Neville’s squad in France.
Nobbs has played 56 times for England, scoring seven goals.
