NEW ORLEANS — Pelicans forward Anthony Davis told reporters that he plans to play Monday night against the Boston Celtics after missing sitting Saturday with a hip strain.
“That’s my plan,” Davis told reporters after the team’s shootaround Monday morning. “My plan is always to play. I have to get evaluated and see how it feels over this couple of hours before the game and go from there.”
Davis, who is averaging 27 points, 12.6 rebounds and 2.7 blocks per game, sat out the in Washington with a right hip strain. It was the fourth game he has missed this season. The Pelicans have lost them all.
New Orleans enters Monday night’s game with a 10-10 record — the same as Boston — and sits in eighth place in the West, but the Pelicans are riding a three-game losing streak.
Boston, meanwhile, will be without Jaylen Brown, who didn’t attend shootaround after suffering a hard fall and injuring his back late in the fourth quarter of Saturday’s loss in Dallas.
Brown said he would be all right after Saturday’s loss, but he was ruled out Monday morning.
“He’s in a pool somewhere doing a workout,” Celtics head coach Brad Stevens said.
Stevens said he would determine who would replace Brown in Boston’s starting lineup closer to tip Monday night.
