Durant (rest) to sit out 1st game of season

NBA

Golden State Warriors All-Star Kevin Durant will miss his first game of the season Thursday night against the Orlando Magic, the team announced.

Durant, averaging 27.5 points per game, is getting a rest day.

With back-to-back games against the Miami Heat on Wednesday and Magic on Thursday, the Warriors are practicing “load management.” DeMarcus Cousins sat out Wednesday, when the Warriors lost on a buzzer-beater to the Heat, but is expected to play Thursday, Warriors coach Steve Kerr said.

Andre Iguodala is also out due to an illness, the team said, meaning Alfonzo McKinnie, Damion Lee and Shaun Livingston may see more playing time against Orlando.
