LAS VEGAS — Both title fights at UFC 235 on Saturday are now official as Jon Jones, Anthony Smith, Tyron Woodley and Kamaru Usman all made weight.
Jones and Smith, fighting for the UFC’s light heavyweight belt in the main event, weighed in at 205 and 204.5 pounds, respectively. The fighters could not be more than 205 pounds one day prior to the bout.
Woodley, looking to defend his UFC welterweight title for the fifth consecutive time, hit his mark at 170 pounds. Usman weighed in at 169. Neither could exceed 170 pounds.
Jones (23-1) is arguably the greatest mixed martial artist of all time. He was the youngest fighter to win a UFC belt, claiming the light heavyweight title in 2011 at age 23 and holding it for many years. His only loss was to Matt Hamill in 2009, a fight Jones was decidedly winning until he threw an illegal elbow.
Jones has had problems outside of the Octagon. He was arrested for a hit-and-run incident in 2015 and has tested positive on multiple occasions for drug tests.
Smith (31-13) has won three consecutive fights, most recently by rear-naked choke against Volkan Oezdemir in October.
Woodley will face Usman in the co-main event. He is 6-0-1 in his last seven bouts. Usman has won 13 in a row and is coming off a unanimous decision win against former champion Rafael dos Anjos in November.
