Luke Rockhold underwent surgery on his right knee Monday in South Dakota, the former UFC middleweight champion told ESPN.
Rockhold described the surgery as a “minor procedure” on his meniscus that will sideline him for approximately three weeks, according to his doctors.
The 34-year-old Rockhold said his next fight will mark his UFC light heavyweight debut, and he is hoping to return to action in June or July.
He told ESPN the UFC recently offered him a fight against Corey Anderson in at UFC 238 in Chicago on June 8, and he is waiting to find out if Anderson will accept the fight. Anderson’s team wasn’t available on Monday when contacted by ESPN about the fight.
Rockhold (16-4) hasn’t fought since getting knocked out by Yoel Romero at UFC 221 last February. Since then, he has battled a litany of injuries that have precluded his return to action, including a shin injury that has had to be surgically repaired multiple times since his loss to Romero.
