WBA “regular” middleweight titleholder Robert Brant faces former titlist Ryota Murata in the main event of a Top Rank on ESPN+ card at 7 a.m. ET July 12 at the EDION Arena Osaka in Osaka, Japan.
Brant (25-1, 17 KOs) won the title with a unanimous decision victory over Murata in October at the Park Theater in Las Vegas.
Brand, from Saint Paul, Minnesota, defended the belt once with an 11th-round TKO over Khasan Baysangurov in February. His only defeat came against Juergen Braehmer in 2017, when Brant went up in weight to participate in the super middleweight World Boxing Super Series tournament.
Murata (14-2, 11 KOs) of Japan, won the WBA “regular” title in a rematch against Hassan N’Dam N’Jikam in 2017. He then lost the belt against Brant a year later.
Murata hasn’t fought since that first fight against Brant, the longest layoff of his career.
