LYTHAM ST. ANNES, England — A trio of Americans lead the Senior British Open alongside an Englishman after the first round.

Wes Short Jr., Scott Dunlap and Scott Parel hold a one-stroke lead with Paul Broadhurst after the rain-affected first round was completed on Friday.

The four leaders shot 3-under 67s at Royal Lytham & St. Annes. Former Ryder Cup captains Darren Clarke and Colin Montgomerie were tied for fifth with Woody Austin, Tom Gillis, Ken Duke and Magnus P. Atlevi.

Weather caused about a three-hour delay Thursday with play stopped twice because of lightning. Play was suspended overnight because of fading light.

Duke, who shared the lead overnight, played his two final holes on Friday to complete the first round. He bogeyed the 17th to finish with a 68. Parel parred the 18th to remain at the top.

The second round is scheduled for Friday.
