France centre Geoffrey Doumayrou has been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup in Japan with an achilles injury, head coach Jacques Brunel said in a news conference on Thursday.
Brunel said that he expects to name a replacement for Doumayrou in the World Cup squad later on Thursday after confirming that the 29-year-old centre will not return in time for the Rugby World Cup.
Doumayrou, who plays for French side La Rochelle, has 12 international caps, but is yet to appear at a Rugby World Cup.
France face Scotland in a World Cup in the first of two test matches in Nice on Saturday, before facing them again at Murrayfield on Aug. 24.
France begin their World Cup campaign in Tokyo against Argentina in Pool C on Sept. 23, before matches against U.S.A, Tonga and England.
