Scotland lock Sam Skinner has been ruled out of the Rugby World Cup after suffering a hamstring injury in Saturday’s victory over France.
Skinner, 24, limped off during Scotland’s 17-14 comeback win at Murrayfield and Scottish Rugby confirmed on Tuesday that the Exeter Chiefs man will not feature in Japan next month.
A statement read: “Skinner had the muscle scanned at Spire Murrayfield Hospital on the evening of the match, with the time taken to recover deemed insufficient to play a meaningful part in Scotland’s Rugby World Cup 2019 campaign.”
Glasgow Warriors second row Tim Swinson has been called up as training cover and will join up with the Scotland squad.
Swinson has made 38 international appearances, and he was involved in Scotland’s win over Argentina last summer.
Scotland face Georgia in back-to-back warm up matches before they start their World Cup campaign against Ireland on Sept. 23.
