Go big on Short and Renshaw

Cricket

Hobart Hurricanes v Brisbane Heat

Our XI: D’Arcy Short, Ben McDermott, Chris Lynn, Matt Renshaw, Caleb Jewell, David Miller, Ben Cutting, James Faulkner, Riley Meredith, Qais Ahmed, Ben Laughlin

NOTE: We might not always be able to tip you off about late injury (or other relevant updates)

Captain: Matt Renshaw The Hurricanes have bowlers in form and if they cash in on the early wickets, Renshaw, the Heat’s top-scorer so far, will have a lot of overs to do his thing. And, let’s not forget, he’s picking up wickets these days.

Vice-captain: Riley Meredith Meredith is the joint-third best wicket-taker this season and he enjoyed himself when the Hurricanes last played at Bellerive Oval, picking up a clinical three-for. He also has the best economy rate among all those who have bowled at least eight overs in this BBL.

Hot picks

James Faulkner

On a pitch where 150 is par, Faulkner, who has seven wickets in three games so far seems to be the perfect all-round option. His runs could come in handy too.

Chris Lynn

After their collapse against Perth Scorchers, Lynn took it on himself to apologise to the fans calling their 109 all out display “embarrassing.” He will be eager to make amends, and after his 94 against Sydney Sixers, you can’t ignore a player of his caliber.

D’Arcy Short

After being picked for the India tour, Short will have plenty of eyes on him before he leaves the BBL. With two fifties already, he is in good touch and an out-of-form Heat bowling unit adds to Short’s value. Could be a good pick for captain or vice-captain too.

Value picks

Ben Laughlin

He became the first bowler to 100 BBL wickets in the last game and is currently the Heat’s joint-highest wicket-taker. If they can put a respectable total on board, he will be their main man for top-order wickets.

Ben McDermott

A fifty in the last game at the same venue should give you hope but the Hurricane’s over-reliance on Short and his subsequent exit later on will mean McDermott will need to step up sooner than later.
