The Golden State Warriors have officially ruled out Klay Thompson for the rest of the season.
Thompson is recovering from a torn left ACL he suffered during Game 6 of the NBA Finals on June 13, 2019. He had surgery July 2.
In a statement issued Thursday night, the Warriors said the shooting guard has been reevaluated in recent days. The evaluation confirmed that he is making good progress and is expected to return to action when the team’s 2020-21 training camp begins in late September.
Warriors coach Steve Kerr, talking to reporters Thursday night, said the team’s training staff made the final decision.
“This is what I expected from the beginning because of the severity of the injury,” he said. “It’s no surprise.”
In his first eight seasons, Thompson missed only 26 of 764 games, playoffs included. In 2018-19, he averaged 21.5 points per game.
