England prop Joe Marler has been cited after he appeared to grab Wales captain Alun Wyn Jones’ around the groin area during his side’s 33-30 Six Nations victory on Saturday.

After just 10 minutes of the Twickenham game a melee broke out when Wales had a try disallowed for a George North knock-on, and the incident was caught on camera.

Jones called officials to review the incident in his post-match comments, with Marler now having been cited, Six Nations have announced.

It said in a statement: “Joe Marler has been cited for an alleged infringement of Law 9.27 (a player must not do anything that is against the spirit of good sportsmanship — hair pulling or grabbing; Spitting at anyone; grabbing, twisting or squeezing the genitals (and/or breasts in the case of female players) during the Guinness Six Nations England v Wales match last Saturday.

A disciplinary hearing will take place in Dublin on Thursday.
