Heavyweight contender Daniel Dubois sent Ricardo Snijders to the canvas three times in the first round and then stopped him in the second in the main event of a Top Rank card at the BT Sports Studio in London on Saturday.
Dubois (15-0, 14 KOs) was in charge from the very beginning as he methodically moved forward on Snijders (18-2, 8 KOs), who spent much of the fight with his back to the ropes.
Every punch that Dubois threw was hard and he first hurt Snijders with a left hook to the body, to send him down. After rising to his feet, a few more punches from close distance had Snijders back on the canvas, and then finally near the end of the first, another series of punches caused another knockdown. As referee Marcus McDonnell gave the mandatory eight count for the third time, the bell rang to end the round.
While Snijders made it to the second round, it wouldn’t last much longer. Dubois landed a couple of well-placed hooks to the body to send Snijders down once again. Snijders made it back to his feet, but referee McDonnell called off the fight at :20 seconds of the round.
In total, Snijders was knocked down four times in less than three-and-a-half minutes of action.
Dubois now moves onto what should be a much sterner test against undefeated Joe Joyce (11-0, 10 KOs), who scored a third-round TKO of Michael Wallisch on July 25, in an all-British showdown.
