Agents: Free agent Pelle plans to sign with Nets

NBA

Free-agent forward Norvel Pelle is planning to sign a deal with the Brooklyn Nets once he clears health and safety protocols, his agents, BJ Bass and Tod Seidel, told ESPN.

Pelle, 27, is a limited all-around big man but an electric shot-blocker who has shown an ability to control space near the rim in his brief NBA and G League career.

Pelle will have to continue to test negative for the coronavirus for several days before he can be cleared to join the Nets, sources said.

The Nets have three available roster spots since the James Harden trade, and they hope Pelle can provide a measure of rebounding and shot-blocking depth to an offensive juggernaut desperate to tighten up defensively.

Pelle played 24 games for the 76ers a season ago, blocking 1.3 shots in an average of 9.7 minutes per game. He had signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers this season on an Exhibit 10 contract and had planned to join the Canton Charge in the G League’s Orlando bubble before committing to the Nets deal.
