She made a double century on Test debut against England in 2001
The thoughts of Australia’s cricket community are with ex-Test player Michelle Goszko, who is in a Sydney hospital after suffering a stroke.
Former team-mate Lisa Sthalekar revealed the 44-year-old’s condition during the Seven Network’s broadcast of the WBBL match between the Brisbane Heat and Sydney Sixers on Saturday.
“A big shout-out to Michelle Goszko,” Sthalekar said. “She is in ICU. She is talking a little bit and she’s improving slowly. The cricket community is certainly behind you Gozzy.”
Shortly before the Heat began the second innings of the match, current Test star Alyssa Healy also sent her regards to Goszko and her family.
A right-handed batter and occasional right-arm medium pace bowler, Goszko played four Tests for Australia between 2001 and 2006.
Her career included a double-century on debut against England at Shenley Park, at the time equalling the world record for the highest individual Test score, and it remains the highest score on Test debut. She also made 34 one-day international appearances and featured in one T20I.
