Doncic to miss 3rd straight game with sore ankle

Dallas Mavericks superstar Luka Doncic will miss his third straight game Wednesday against the Los Angeles Lakers because of left ankle soreness, the team announced Tuesday.

Doncic sprained that ankle on Nov. 15, missed the next three games and has dealt with persistent soreness since. He turned the ankle again during Friday’s road loss to the Indiana Pacers and was held out for back-to-back games against the Oklahoma City Thunder and Charlotte Hornets this week — both of which the Mavericks won. Dallas had been 0-4 without the All-Star guard this season.

Doncic, who also sat out a Dec. 4 loss to the Memphis Grizzlies because of left ankle soreness, said after Friday’s game that he probably shouldn’t have finished the game.

“I probably shouldn’t have played the fourth [quarter],” said Doncic, who waved off a substitute after turning the ankle during the third quarter but was noticeably limping and grimacing. “I wasn’t feeling very good, but I tried to be out there.”

ESPN’s Tim MacMahon contributed to this report.
