Morant (knee) to be reevaluated in two weeks

NBA

The Memphis Grizzlies say star Ja Morant will be reevaluated in two weeks as he continues to deal with knee soreness that has sidelined him for three straight games.

Speaking before a 133-103 win against the Indiana Pacers on Thursday night, Memphis coach Taylor Jenkins said the team expects Morant back before the playoffs.

“We expect him to make a full recovery before the playoffs, and we’re excited about that with two and a half weeks left in the season,” Jenkins told reporters, according to the Commercial Appeal. “We’ll offload him early, then he’ll start reloading pretty soon here with that two weeks in mind to reevaluate.”

Morant missed his second straight game Wednesday night against the Brooklyn Nets due to the soreness, although he was on the bench, standing and cheering the team on during its 132-120 win. He also sat out a win over the Pacers last week because of back soreness.

Morant has played his way into MVP and All-NBA discussions during his third NBA season. He is averaging 27.6 points, 5.7 rebounds and 6.7 assists per game for the Grizzlies, who are second in the Western Conference standings.

Memphis is now 16-2 record without Morant this season.
