The pair added 116 for the fifth wicket with Wyatt being dropped as many as five times
50 overs England Women 293 for 8 (Wyatt 129, Dunkley 60, Ismail 3-46, Kapp 2-52, Klaas 2-55) vs South Africa Women
Danni Wyatt‘s maiden World Cup century and a second successive fifty from Sophia Dunkley powered England to a commanding 293 for 8 in the 2022 ODI World Cup semi-final in Christchurch. Despite Shabnim Ismail’s 3 for 46, South Africa will have to complete the highest successful chase to reach their maiden final in a world tournament.
South Africa bore the brunt of slipshod fielding in this rematch of the semi-final of the 2017 World Cup, a fixture that had ended in a heartbreak for them in Derby. Five dropped catches off Wyatt alone between overs 10 and 41 meant the England opener got lifelines on 22, 36, 77, 116 and 117 en route to her 125-ball 129.
Her fourth-wicket 116-run stand with Dunkley helped defending champions England post the third-highest first-innings total in this World Cup after South Africa sent them in in slightly overcast and windy conditions at the Hagley Oval. Dunkley, who scripted a match-winning rescue act against Bangladesh in England’s final league-stage game on Sunday, compiled a confident 72-ball 60 before Sophie Ecclestone added 24 to England’s final score with an 11-ball cameo at No. 8.
