Sources: Justin Holiday to Mavericks after buyout

NBA

Veteran guard Justin Holiday has agreed to a buyout arrangement with the Houston Rockets and plans to sign with the Dallas Mavericks when he clears waivers, sources told ESPN.

Holiday was traded to the Rockets last week from the Atlanta Hawks, for whom he played 28 games this season and averaged 4.5 points in limited minutes. He averaged 10.1 points last season when he was a starter for the Sacramento Kings and Indiana Pacers.

The Mavericks have been active looking for perimeter depth in the wake of trading for Kyrie Irving last week. Because of the buyout and waiver process, Holiday likely won’t join the Mavericks until after the All-Star break.

The Mavs will also host free agent forward/center LaMarcus Aldridge for a workout Tuesday, sources told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.

Aldridge, a seven-time All-Star, averaged 12.9 points in 47 games for Brooklyn a season ago and has been preparing to play in his 17th NBA season.

A Dallas native, Aldridge, 37, has career averages of 19.1 points and 8.1 rebounds.
