Paris Saint-Germain face a continued wait for midfielder Adrien Rabiot to decide over a contract extension with little progress made between the Ligue 1 champions and the France international, a source close to the club has revealed to ESPN FC.
The source also added that Marco Verratti is on the cusp of a new long-term deal and RMC Sport recently reported that Angel Di Maria will soon sign an extension through 2021.
Rabiot, 23, is into the final 12 months of his current deal and other sources recently revealed to ESPN FC that Premier League outfit Liverpool are one of the PSG youth academy graduate’s suitors.
According to the source, Juventus and Chelsea are also keen on Rabiot and the player’s mother and agent Veronique is aware of the long list of European parties interested in her son.
However, the source stressed that PSG’s No. 25 has not indicated he is set on leaving Parc des Princes and wants to see how the team fares in the Champions League group stage before deciding.
Thomas Tuchel recently sang Rabiot’s praises when he spoke with RMC Sport but also admitted that he has “no influence” over the player’s future.
Rabiot’s relationship with Tuchel is not a problem, said the source, nor chairman and CEO Nasser Al-Khelaifi, but sporting director Antero Henrique’s approach to talks has not been appreciated by the player and his mother.
Rabiot will be able to discuss a potential free transfer away from PSG in January, but the source indicated that he could be ready to finally entertain talks to stay in Paris with a convincing Champions League group stage showing.
If PSG struggle against group opponents Liverpool and Napoli, though, the source said that it would strengthen Rabiot’s suspicions that his formative club are now stunting his growth.
Elsewhere, Di Maria is ready to commit to an extended contract until 2021, according the RMC Sport report. The Argentina international has scored three goals and assisted three more in five competitive appearances this season, making a telling contribution in each outing.
Verratti is also closing on a new contract, according to the source, which would see his long-term future in the French capital secured.
Like Rabiot, goalkeeper Alphonse Areola is also into the final 12 months of his contract, but the source said that he is more open to extending his stay than his fellow homegrown talent.
PSG have seized upon Tuchel’s recent praise during an interview with RMC Sport and are looking to secure the newly-capped France international’s future soon.
Finally, in a timely boost, the source confirmed that Stanley N’Soki is set to sign professional terms with PSG after lengthy negotiations.
The youngster is likely to continue to get significant minutes as Layvin Kurzawa recuperates after surgery on a back problem and late summer signing Juan Bernat beds in.
