Stuart Hogg will miss Scotland’s Autumn Internationals after being ruled out for 10-12 weeks due to an ankle injury.
The fullback underwent surgery Thursday in Glasgow after having returned home from the Warriors’ trip to South Africa early.
Hogg was absent for his side’s Pro 14 victory over the Cheetahs on Saturday but sustained the injury against Ulster earlier this month.
He will miss Scotland’s Autumn Tests against Wales, Fiji, South Africa and Argentina, as well a Glasgow’s’ opening Champions Cup fixtures against Saracens and Cardiff Blues.
“I’m gutted to be missing some important games for Glasgow Warriors and Scotland over the next few months,” Hogg, 26, said.
“My focus just now is working hard and getting fit, so I can play my part in what is a long season.”
Warriors coach Dave Rennie confirmed Hogg traveled to South Africa despite being injured because the team didn’t realise the extent of the problem until the swelling around his ankle reduced.
“It’s frustrating for him,” Rennie said. “He got himself in extremely good nick for the start of the season and was arguably one of the best players on the park in the opening two games. But it’s a long old season, he’s a resilient man travend we’re looking forward to seeing him back out there soon.”
