The world title fight between Filipino boxer Randy Petalcorin and Nicaragua’s Felix Alvarado is set for October 29 at the Solaire Resort and Casino in Parañaque City.
The match will be for the vacant IBF world light flyweight title and is being promoted by ESPN5 Boxing, MP Promotions, Sanman Promotions and Peter Maniatis Events.
“I have worked so hard to prepare for this fight and claim the world title. I have been so prepared and will remain focused despite this small setback. I am so hungry for a world title belt. Alvarado’s record is very impressive but I will treat this fight as a matter of life and death. I will go for the win,” said Petalcorin.
Petalcorin (28-2-1, 22 KOs) has won his last six fights, the latest being a knockout win over Jade Yagahon in May 2018 in South Cotabato, Philippines. Meanwhile, Alvarado (33-2, 29 KOs) is on a 15-match winning streak, capped by a stoppage victory over Ivan Meneses Flores in April 2018 in Managua, Nicaragua.
“Another world title fight for Sanman Boxing. This has been a good year to us and we pray and hope we will have another world champion come October 29. We are happy to have disciplined and dedicated fighters. Please watch out for Petalcorin. He will come out and win big,” said Sanman Promotions CEO JC Manangquil.
As preparation for the fight, Petalcorin has been training at the Sanman Gymn in General Santos City under the watchful eyes of head trainer Fernando Lumacad and assistant coaches Jonathan Baat and Marquil Salvana. He has sparred with four boxers for a total of 110 rounds and counting.
“I am in the best shape so far. I have sacrificed a lot and gave my everything for this fight. Alvarado is a world class fighter but fights are won in the gym and I am confident I am 100% ready. On October 29, I will get that world title belt and will become a world champion once again”, Petalcorin said.
The Petalcorin-Alvarado fight will be televised live on ESPN5, while the undercards will be shown on AkysonTV.
