Christian Daghio, an Italian boxer and martial arts fighter, died this past weekend as a result of injuries sustained in an Oct. 26 boxing match in Bangkok.
Daghio, who was 49, had been knocked out by Don Parueang in the 12th round of a WBC Asia light heavyweight title fight. He was immediately attended to in the ring, and had been in a coma after being rushed to a hospital following the fight.
“Christian died as he wanted to die, that is in the ring,” Daghio’s brother and manager, Fabrizio, told Italian media. “He dreamt of fighting until he was 80 years old.”
The brother said Daghio has a 5-year-old daughter with his girlfriend.
Daghio had competed in more than 200 bouts between boxing and Muay Thai, winning numerous titles.
