New Orleans Pelicans point guard Elfrid Payton will have surgery on his fractured left pinkie finger and is expected to miss approximately six weeks.
Payton suffered the injury in the Pelicans’ victory over the New York Knicks. He had missed the previous nine games because of an ankle sprain before returning to New Orleans’ lineup Friday.
The Pelicans announced Monday that Payton will undergo surgery Tuesday to repair the fracture.
Payton, 24, is averaging 9.7 points, 5.3 assists and 5.2 rebounds in six games this season, his first with the Pelicans.
