OAKLAND, Calif. — Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry is expected to play at some point on the team’s upcoming five-game road trip, which starts Thursday against the East-leading Toronto Raptors, as he continues to recover from a strained left groin.
The Warriors updated Curry’s status prior to Saturday night’s matchup with the Sacramento Kings, saying he is making “very good progress” after a follow-up exam and will start ramping up his on-court work over the next few days, including participating in practices with the rest of his teammates.
Curry initially injured the groin in a Nov. 8 loss to the Milwaukee Bucks, and has missed nine game since. He has gradually started doing more individual court work over the past week.
“He’s doing much better,” Warriors coach Steve Kerr said Saturday. “We’re just going to keep taking it day by day. And Rick [Celebrini, Warriors director of sports medicine and performance] feels very strongly that he’ll play on the road trip.”
Kerr said Curry is “anxious” to return, but the Warriors have taken a cautious approach throughout his rehab process.
“He’s anxious to get back,” Kerr said. “But he’s handled it very well, supporting his teammates, getting his rehab in every day, working really hard. So he’s handling it pretty much exactly as you would expect Steph to handle it.”
Warriors forward Draymond Green (toe) and swingman Alfonzo McKinnie (foot) remained out against the Kings. Both are day-to-day, according to Kerr.
The Warriors host the Orlando Magic on Monday before beginning their five-game road trip Thursday.
