UFC fighter Mackenzie Dern will not be moving up to flyweight after all, as the rising star has decided to remain at strawweight and is targeting a return in March, sources told ESPN on Wednesday.
Prior to her last fight in May, a win over Amanda Cooper, Dern missed weight by 7 pounds, sparking talk that she might move up a weight class. That marked the third time in seven professional fights that she missed weight.
However, according to sources close to her team, Dern has decided to stay at strawweight after a long consultation process with doctors.
Sources said Dern (7-0) is currently targeting the UFC Fight Night card on March 23, though her return bout hasn’t been finalized at this time.
