England head coach Eddie Jones has ruled himself out of the running to become the next Lions boss for the tour of South Africa in 2021.
Jones extended his contract with the national team until 2021 but he has no interest in succeeding Wales boss Warren Gatland — who has been in charge of the previous two Lions tours.
Gatland led Wales to their first Six Nations Grand slam since 2012 and he is leaving his position after this year’s World Cup in Japan.
“The last thing I want to do is spend eight weeks in a blazer,” Jones told The Courier-Mail. “That’s an ambassador job. I’m a coach. I’d rather coach the Queensland Sheffield Shield (cricket) team.”
Jones is focused on getting his players in the right frame of mind for the tournament in Japan.
England finished their Six Nations campaign with a hugely disappointing draw against Scotland at Twickenham despite leading 31-0.
