Retired UFC light heavyweight Anthony Johnson was arrested and charged with misdemeanor domestic battery on Monday in South Florida, according to court records.
Johnson, 35, has an arraignment hearing scheduled on June 3 in Palm Beach County.
A woman who describes herself as Johnson’s girlfriend told police he picked her up and “put her in a football hold” during an argument on Monday, according to TMZ, citing a police report. TMZ also reported the woman did not have visible injuries and that Johnson admitted he picked her up but did not intend to hurt her.
Johnson was taken into custody by the Boca Raton Police Department. His representatives did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Johnson, who retired from mixed martial arts with a 22-6 record in 2017, has been charged with domestic violence in the past. In 2009, he pled no-contest to a misdemeanor in California. Johnson told ESPN in 2015 that he did not get physical with his accuser during that incident and maintained a friendship with her afterwards.
