WBC junior lightweight world titleholder Miguel Berchelt faces former world titlist Francisco Vargas on Saturday at the Tucson Convention Center in Tucson, Arizona, in a fight that airs live on ESPN in the United States at 10 p.m. ET.
Berchelt (35-1, 31 KOs) won the title by defeating Vargas by KO in Round 11 in January 2017. In that fight, Vargas suffered a cut on the bridge of his nose in Round 3 and another cut over the right eye in the fourth, both by legal punches. He also suffered a cut over the left eye in an accidental head butt.
Berchelt has won 13 of his past 14 fight by stoppage and has not lost a fight in five years.
Vargas (25-1-2, 18 KOs) has won two fights in a row since the loss to Berchelt, including a TKO victory over Rod Salka in April 2018.
Vargas was in two ESPN’s fights of the year, a TKO victory over Takashi Miura in 2015 and a majority draw win over Orlando Salido in 2016.
