Golden State Warriors All-Star guard Klay Thompson underwent successful surgery Tuesday in Los Angeles to repair his torn ACL, a league source told ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski.
Dr. Neal ElAttrache performed the procedure at the Kerlan-Jobe Institute.
Thompson is expected to make a full recovery. There’s no timetable on a return, but his agent, Greg Lawrence, has said that Thompson is expected to follow a standard recovery time of five to seven months.
Thompson, 29, tore the ACL in his left knee during Game 6 of the NBA Finals when he landed hard on a breakaway dunk attempt in the third quarter. Golden State was leading 83-80 at the time; the Toronto Raptors went on to win 114-110 to finish off a 4-2 series victory and end the Warriors’ two-year run as NBA champions.
Thompson, an unrestricted free agent, announced Monday on his Instagram account that he was staying with Golden State, writing in his caption that “there was never a doubt.”
Thompson’s maximum contract is for five years and worth $190 million, his agent said.
