As featherweight Joet Gonzalez gets ready to challenge for a world title, he re-signed with Golden Boy Promotions on Tuesday. Terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

Gonzalez is scheduled to face Shakur Stevenson (12-0, 7 KOs) for a vacant 126-pound world title in the main event of a Top Rank Boxing on ESPN+ card on Oct. 26 (ESPN+, 10 p.m.) at the Reno-Sparks Convention Center in Reno, Nevada.

The fight is by far the biggest yet of Gonzalez’s career against an opponent he has a bitter rivalry with, in part because Stevenson has been dating Gonzalez’s sister.

Oscar De La Hoya, CEO of Golden Boy Promotions, was pleased to re-sign Gonzalez ahead of the title fight.

“Joet Gonzalez is one of the most talented and toughest fighters to come out of Southern California in recent years,” De La Hoya said. “When we first signed him, he was an undefeated prospect who showed lots of promise, especially because of his amateur background. During the past years he has become the best featherweight contender in the world, and I’m proud to continue promoting him as enters the next level of his career. Joet Gonzalez will become champion on October 26, and I’m confident he will conquer the division.”

Gonzalez (23-0, 14 KOs), 25, of Los Angeles, has been with Golden Boy since signing with the company as an 8-0 prospect in April 2015 and has come up through the ranks beginning with bouts on Golden Boy’s “LA Fight Club” cards.

He said he is comfortable with the way the promotional company has guided his career and pleased to re-sign.

“The relationship between a boxer, a manager and a promoter is a partnership,” Gonzalez said. “I built and developed my career with Golden Boy, and now that I am fighting for a world title, I want to show everyone that we are in this together as I take the next step in my career. I want to thank my manager, Frank Espinoza, along with everyone at Golden Boy. This Oct. 26 I will bring a world title back home.”
