Aguilar stops Jardon, and Picasso dominates Perez in Mexico City

It was quick an decisive victory for Omar Aguilar who scored a first-round TKO over veteran Dante Jardon on the Miguel Berchelt-Eleazar Valenzuela undercard Saturday night in Mexico City.

Aguilar (18-0, 17 KOs) was hitting Jardon (32-7. 23 KO) with a series of punches that had him backing up and near the ropes after a sharp right hand had him staggering. Jardon was still on his feet when the fight was waved off.

You could argue that this stoppage was quick, but it was clear where this fight was headed.

Tonight’s card had an interesting twist. The WBC utilized six judges for the two main fights, having three judges scoring from the TV studio, while the other three scoring from home in the United States. This is the second event in which they have utilized this system.

Picasso outpunches Perez

Junior welterweight Alan David Picasso used a steady work rate with a variety of punches to earn an eight-round unanimous decision victory over Florentino Perez. For this fight, the WBC employed six judges.

Three of the judges had the fight 80-72, while the other three had it 78-74, 79-73 and 79-74, all in favor of Picasso.

Picasso (14-1, 5 KOs) showed good form as he steadily hit Perez (14-6-2, 9 KOs) with a series of whipping left hooks to the body, straight right hands and uppercuts. Despite his tall frame and long limbs, Picasso, 19, is much more comfortable operating inside and chipping away at his opponents. There were several times when it looked like Perez would capitulate, but to his credit, he hung tough and saw the final bell.

Espinoza TKOs Guzman in Round 2

Rafael Espinoza (15-0, 13 KOs) stayed unbeaten with a second-round stoppage victory over Luis Guzman (11-15, 2 KOs). A left hook from Espinoza caused a deep cut over Guzman’s right eye and the ring doctor determined that the cut was to deep and advised the referee to end the fight.

In the opener, Ruben Aguilar defeated Emanuel Herrera by unanimous decision in their junior welterweight bout. After the fight, all three judges had the fight for Aguilar 60-54, 59-55 and 59-56.
