Dallas Cowboys right tackle La’el Collins was in a minor car accident on Thursday that kept him off the field, but he is at practice facility with the team, according to multiple sources.

Collins has worked off to the side at the start of training camp as he has dealt with a soft-tissue injury.

It’s not clear yet if the accident will impact Collins’ ability to return to the field sooner rather than later.

The Cowboys were without their top three tackles in practice Thursday with Tyron Smith sitting out after his hamstring tightened up. He went through some individual drills before walking off before the team moved the session into Ford Center.

Cameron Erving, who was signed to be the backup at both tackle spots as a free agent, has yet to practice because of an ailment but the expectation is he will be able to get some work in soon.

Without the three tackles, Wyatt Miller and Terence Steele worked at left tackle in place of Smith and Brandon Knight took work at right tackle for Collins. The Cowboys added Pace Murphy to the roster on Tuesday and this was his first practice.

Dak Prescott is taking a bigger-picture view on the absences of Collins, Smith and Erving.

“I think it’s just going to make me a better player, to be honest,” Prescott said. “We know what th

e guys, the starters, the known starters, we know what they’re about. They’ve played and they’ve been great and been in this league for a while, so no worries in that sense.”
