South Africa 121 for 1 (Wolvaardt 71*) beat West Indies 120 all out (Knight 22, Kapp 3-24, van Niekerk 2-14) by nine wickets

South Africa bowlers’ combined efforts to restrict West Indies 120 followed by Laura Wolvaardt‘s unbeaten 71 helped the visitors romp to a nine-wicket win in the second ODI in Antigua and go 2-0 up in the five-match series.

West Indies faltered after opting to bat as they were reduced to 18 for 3 by Marizanne Kapp as Hayley Matthews, Kyshona Knight and Deandra Dottin walked back for single-digit scores. Chedean Nation and Kycia Knight then put up a fight with a 31-run stand but those efforts were undone by Sune Luus. Dane van Niekerk and Ayabonga Khaka then combined to run through the rest of the order, as West Indies fell from 84 for 5 to 120 all out. Kapp finished with figures of 3 for 24 in nine overs while Khaka, van Niekerk and Luus up picked two each.

South Africa made easy work of the chase, losing just one wicket, as Wolvaardt and Lara Goodall put up an 86-run stand to reach the target in 25.4 overs. Wolvaardt hit eight fours in her 84-ball stay.

“We [West Indies] got more partnerships at the back end than the front end so that’s something that’s very concerning,” head coach Courtney Walsh said after the match. “120 is not a score you can fight along with so I’m very disappointed and I’m sure the players are as well. We have three games to play and the series hasn’t been lost as yet, we have to come out and fire on all cylinders to try to win the next three games if we want to win the series.”
