While the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs are underway, the season is over for many other teams. Some of them have elected to part ways with their head coaches this offseason, including the New York Islanders, Detroit Red Wings, Philadelphia Flyers and Winnipeg Jets. Plus, there are multiple interim bench bosses whose statuses have yet to be finalized.

The Bruins are expected to hire Jim Montgomery as their next head coach, sources told ESPN on June 30. Montgomery is formerly the Dallas Stars head coach and most recently an assistant with the St. Louis Blues.
The Bruins fired head coach Bruce Cassidy on June 6. Cassidy had held the position since February 2017, taking over when the Bruins let go of Claude Julien. The 57-year-old Cassidy was behind Boston’s bench for 399 games, and leaves with a record 245-108-46. The team made the playoffs in each of his six seasons.
Interim coach: Derek King
2021-22 record: 28-42-12 (68 points, seventh in Central)
2022 draft picks: 2nd, 2nd (MIN), 3rd (VGK), 3rd (EDM), 3rd (TOR), 6th, 6th (CBJ), 7th

Although interim coach Derek King was in the mix for the permanent job, the Blackhawks elected to go with Luke Richardson.

Peter DeBoer has been named the next head coach of the Stars, per an official team announcement on June 21.
Previously it was announced that Rick Bowness is stepping aside as Stars head coach after three seasons. Bowness, 67, had his two-year contract expire after the Stars were eliminated by the Flames in seven games in the first round of the Western Conference playoffs. Assistant coaches Derek Laxdal, John Stevens and Todd Nelson will also not return to the Stars next season.

Detroit hired Derek Lalonde as its next head coach on June 30. Lalonde spent four seasons on Jon Cooper’s staff with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
The Red Wings decided not to renew the contract of Jeff Blashill, who just completed his seventh season as head coach. Detroit finished with a 32-40-10 record (.451 points percentage) and was 26 points out of a playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, missing the playoffs for the sixth straight season.
Interim coach: Jay Woodcroft
2021-22 record: 49-27-6 (104 points, second in Pacific)
2022 draft picks: 1st, 5th, 6th, 7th
Projected cap space: $6,964,538
The Oilers qualified for the playoffs under the guidance of interim coach Jay Woodcroft, who was tabbed after the club fired Dave Tippett on Feb. 10.
On June 21, the team announced that they had signed Woodcroft to a contract through the 2024-25 season.

2021-22 record: 58-18-6 (122 points, first in Atlantic)

The Panthers hired Paul Maurice, formerly of the Jets, as their head coach on June 22. It is unclear whether Andrew Brunette will remain with the organization.
Following the resignation of Joel Quenneville, the Panthers announced that Brunette would take over behind the bench on an interim basis. He guided the team to a dynamic season, as the club won the Presidents’ Trophy for having the NHL’s best regular-season record.

The Islanders hired Lane Lambert — a long-time assistant under Barry Trotz — as their new head coach on May 16.
Previously, the Islanders fired coach Barry Trotz. The club missed the playoffs after finishing 37-35-10, following two straight seasons of losing in the conference finals. Trotz had one year left on his five-year contract.

John Tortorella has been hired by the Flyers to be the team’s next head coach, with the two sides inking a four-year deal, according to ESPN’s Kevin Weekes.
It was previously reported that Flyers interim coach Mike Yeo would not be the team’s head coach next season. Yeo, 48, went 17-36-7 behind the Flyers’ bench this past season, as Philadelphia failed to make the postseason cut for the second straight season.

On June 14, the Golden Knights hired Bruce Cassidy — fired this offseason as coach of the Bruins — to be their next head coach.
Previously, the Golden Knights fired head coach Peter DeBoer on May 16, after the team failed to make the playoffs for the first time in franchise history.
