Krief replaces Rossi as Alpine CEO

Formula 1

Philippe Krief has replaced Laurent Rossi as Alpine’s CEO, with Rossi moving away from Formula One to a role overseeing special projects for the wider Renault Group.

Alpine, a sub-brand of Renault, entered F1 in 2021 with Rossi as its CEO overseeing operations of the car brand as well as the F1 team.

Krief will be promoted from the position of VP, Engineering & Product Performance, which he has held since March this year after joining Alpine from Ferrari.

“I would like to thank Laurent for his unwavering commitment over the last two years at the helm of Alpine,” Renault Group CEO Luca de Meo said. “Laurent has set out a clear and ambitious strategy for the brand. He has put Alpine in the best possible position to achieve its long-term goals.

“Alpine is now ready to enter a new phase of its development and to become a brand of the future. Philippe combines a long industry experience, great technical knowledge with the leadership qualities that are key to the success of our project, including the launch of the brand’s new vehicles starting next year. I fully trust Philippe and his team to take Alpine to new heights.”

In 2021, Rossi set in place a 100-race plan to return the Alpine F1 team to the front of the grid.

The plan appeared to be on track last season when it finished fourth in the constructors’ standings but is now starting to slip with the team currently sixth in the standings.

Otmar Szafnauer remains the team principal at Alpine.
