Toss India opt to bowl vs West Indies

India captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bowl in the opening ODI against West Indies in Bridgetown.
India handed an ODI debut to Mukesh Kumar, who will be part of a three-man fast-bowling attack which includes Shardul Thakur and Umran Malik. They went with Kuldeep Yadav as their frontline spinner, while Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya were the two allrounders in the side.

Mukesh had made his Test debut in the second match of the recently-concluded series against West Indies. He has played 24 List A games and has picked up 26 wickets at 37.46.

Rohit said he wanted to try a few things ahead of the ODI World Cup and see where the team was heading into the marquee tournament.

West Indies, meanwhile, brought back Shimron Hetmyer into the side and picked Dominic Drakes and Jayden Seales as the two frontline fast bowlers. Gudakesh Motie and Yannic Cariah were the two spinners in the side.

Shai Hope, the West Indies captain, expected a bit of moisture in the surface owing to an early-morning start, and said that his batters will need to be watchful early on.

West Indies come into the series on the back of a disappointing World Cup qualifier campaign where they failed to make it to the main event for the first time in their history.
